{31 Days} Preparing for Baby # 3 – Cloth Diapers
Welcome to my {31 Days} series this year! We will soon be welcoming baby # 3 and I realized that there is a lot I need to do before that happens! You can find all the posts in this series here. Thank you for following along with me.
Once upon a time, when I was pregnant with my oldest, I
decided to become a crunchy hippy mama.
One of the decisions that we made was to cloth diaper. And when I say we, I really mean I made that
decision. My husband had never changed a
diaper before in his life, so I figured he could learn just as easily with
cloth as with disposables.

The main reason that I decided on cloth diapers with my
oldest was from a chemical perspective.
I didn’t want to have anything too harsh near my baby’s skin. The second part of the decision was cost
based. With cloth diapers we could reuse
them, and not just for the one baby, for multiple babies.

I was happy that I made the decision to cloth diaper after
we brought home our oldest with a pretty bad rash. The rash cleared up as soon as we changed
from the disposable diapers the hospital had given to us, and we started using
the pre-folds that I had purchased.

Now, that is not to say that we never use disposable
diapers. One time that we ALWAYS use
disposable diapers is around the holidays.
This time will be no exception I’m sure.
With all the busyness that comes with the holidays, travel, parties,
visiting friends, friends and family visiting, making sure I have clean diapers
to use is not the top of my priority list.

But, how do you make the decision to cloth diaper or use
disposables?

I think that a lot of it comes down to personal preference,
and also time. Obviously, if you are working
full time, it will be difficult to cloth diaper, especially if your child has
to go to any type of day care. Gone are
the days when day cares would actually use cloth diapers if that is what you
provided.

I would say if you don’t have a washing machine in your
house, you are probably going to have a difficult time using cloth as
well. Not that it cannot be done, it
certainly can, it just takes a little more effort on your part. Instead of soaking diapers in water, you would
most likely use a “dry bag” which is exactly as it sounds; a waterproof bag
that you stick the dirty diapers in.
When you need clean diapers again, you would take the bag to the
Laundromat and wash them.

and any way that we can save money we will do that!

Some of the benefits of cloth diapering for us have been the
cost, and the early potty training. I am
crossing my fingers that things go as well this time around. And I am also thankful for the option to use
disposables if we need them. Modern
convenience is never to be completely ruled out!

You know I went disposable but if I had to do it again, you might convince me to do cloth…almost!
We use cloth and love them! We've even started using the clothesline to dry them instead of the dryer, which has turned out to be a really enjoyable task!
The whole "no washing machine in the house" is me right now. We have lived in an apartment for most of my youngest life (he is two now). Other than I've done cloth with all 3. Loved it.
I cloth diaper my 5.5 month old son. Prefolds, flats and covers for daytime, and fitteds and covers at night. I love it. Saves us a ton of money and they're cute!

Oh the places diapers have gone! We used cloth on all three of our boys, who are men now! We loved them. However, there were no pre-fold or velcro closed diapers. They were all rectangular and had to be folded then pinned and a rubber pant over. Many great memories and healthy baby bottoms during those years!!!
I used cloth with the twins – we loved Fuzzibunz. They held up so well. The only time I did disposables with them was when we were traveling, or if we were going to be in town the whole entire day.
