{31 Days} Preparing for Baby #3 – A New Closet
Welcome to my {31 Days} series this year! We will soon be welcoming baby # 3 and I realized that there is a lot I need to do before that happens! You can find all the posts in this series here. Thank you for following along with me.
I often bemoan the fact that our house is too big. It isn’t really, by American standards, a
nice 2300sf. I think the real issue is
the lack of closets. We have one tiny
closet that the kids dress clothes fit in, and another closet that hangers do
not actually fit in – and no shelves either.

When I started sorting through all the baby clothes, I
thought to myself, where am I going to put all of these clothes? There were definitely some major
concerns. I knew that we had no closet
to speak of, and no bureaus to put the clothes in. I enlisted the help of my handy husband to
make us a closet.

Our home is a single family now, but it has been used in the
past as a duplex; which means we have an upstairs entryway that is a good size
for a walk in closet. It really is about
utilizing the space that you have in order to make it work. Nothing will ever be perfect, so work with
what you have got. That has been our
motto since moving into this house!

Adding some shelves allowed us to hang most of the clothes
(the kids clothes and my clothes) as well as put all the baby clothes away,
well at least the first six months of clothes!

I never thought I would be one for a family clothes closet
like the Duggars, however, this seems to be working for us really well right
now. Now, I am not sure how organized
this will stay, but it is amazing to have a little more space available to us
for storing things that we need, while also still having it out of the way and
not visible!

Have you had any
challenges when it comes to organizing clothes?
Do you live in an old house with very few closets? What solutions have
you come up with?

So clever! We live in a rental right now and preparing for baby #3 as well. I have our nursery closet filled to overflowing with my crafting and office supplies as the nursery WAS going to be my office. I moved my desk out and the basic office needs into the living room but left the closet plumb full. I decided to put a clothes bar under the desk that I am using as a changing table since I rarely open a closet to look for clothes for our other boys I thought it might be a little more convenient. We'll see when the time comes how that idea worked out. 🙂
I'm currently working on my closet too! I don't live in an older home but we do live in a tight space where we actually don't have a closet. We have a small space against a wall! Your setup looks really great! =)
It is crazy hard when there are no closets! And thinking about having 3 kids…with all of their stuff…it is making me go a little crazy 🙂 Thanks for visiting!
Wow – looks great! I love it! We solved the not having enough closet space by making an amoire out of a bookcase for our little one's clothes!
That sounds like a great idea, Betsy! I think we are making it work, but I wouldn't mind a couple more closets…like one for towels and cloth diapers!
The classic problem in older homes: not enough closet space! Could it be because back in those days, you didn't have a ton of stuff, just a few items of what was needed! Anyway, your new closets look perfect for bringing home baby #3! 🙂
