Ten of the Best Advent Calendars
My absolute favorite time of year is the holiday season. Pretty much Halloween right through to New Years is a time that is so magical, and I love it. It is a time where we lean heavily on traditions. One of the best traditions is our Advent Calendars. Today I wanted to share some of my favorite advent calendars with you as well as what we are using for 2024!

Advent Calendars for STEM
Several years ago, KiwiCo came out with their first advent calendar. I was so excited about it because we had been subscribing to KiwiCo for years at that point. Their STEM boxes have been some of the most fun projects my kids have worked on over the years. When I saw that they had an option for a Santa’s Village Advent Calendar, I knew we had to get it. And each year since then, we got the new option that they offered for the Advent season.
These advent calendars are a great way to engage with your kids during the holiday season, and they aren’t a one and done like most advent calendars are. Instead, we carefully take apart most of the large pieces and pack them away to use the next year. Because we have all of the advent calendars now, we have a lovely Christmas scene in our dining room all through the holidays. It is by far my favorite family advent calendar!
Puzzle Advent Calendars
Last year was the first year that we got a puzzle Advent Calendar. It was definitely a hit. Jack and I love to do puzzles all through the winter (talk about hygge homeschooling!) so when I saw that there was such a thing as a puzzle Advent Calendar, I jumped at it! They are super cute 42-50 piece puzzle boxes that will create a lovely large puzzle when you are done. And since Jack and I are incredibly slow with the 1000 piece puzzles we have tried in the past, this is perfect for us.
Beauty
As the kids get older, it gets a little more challenging to find Advent Calendars that will work. But, there have been a lot of fun beauty options available over the past several years. Emma absolutely loved this one. And if you love a little extra pampering, grab one for yourself as well!
Game Advent Calendar
Our Advent Calendar tradition has definitely exploded, but there are so many fun options that it makes me happy. We tried out this family games calendar a couple of years ago, and absolutely loved it. It gave us something fun to do in the evenings that was not on screens. Honestly, it was just good ol’ fun to have some of these dice and card games and other silly things to do as a family.
For Jack, he has kind of graduated from the LEGO Advent Calendars, but he really likes the strategy game options.
Slime & Fidget
Never did I think that my youngest would be all in on the different slime and fidget Advent Calendars, but my goodness she loves them. I think it is her most requested Advent Calendar, and so that is what we go with. In fact, she saves all of the little fidget toys and squishy toys that she can find.
The Bottom Line
Advent Calendars have been a tradition that we have absolutely loved over the years. It started when my older two were very young with our Advent Bags tradition, and has morphed into part of the gift giving that is done during this holiday season. If you are looking for some fun options to do as a family, definitely check out the KiwiCo Advent Calendars as well as the Family Games. They are so much fun, and give you some non-screen time enjoyment during the holiday season.
