Homeschool mom favorites are some of the best posts to read!  They give you so many ideas on what might help your own homeschool work better.  Today I am going to share my homeschool mom favorites from the past month.  This will be a collection of not just homeschool curricula, but books, podcasts, lifestyle favorites.  Pretty much anything that is making my life better currently.

The first favorite on my list is The Brave Learner by Julie Bogart.  Now, I won’t go into a lot of detail about this book because I wrote an entire review here.  Let’s just say that this book is the validation that a lot of homeschool moms need.  You are always trying to decide whether or not you are doing enough with your kids.  Whether or not your kids are learning the right things at right time.  This book delivers on that goal.  I think every homeschool mom should read it.

My next book is Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport.  He is also the author of the popular book Deep Work which I own, but have not read yet.  Digital Minimalism is about figuring out how to best use technology in the world we live in today.  There are so many people that struggle with internet and app usage.  As homeschoolers we want to make sure that our kids have the best tools available, which are often technologically based, but we also want them to learn how to use these tools wisely.  There is a lot of really great data in this book about how companies use technology and apps to get our attention, as well as what we can do to combat it.  I obviously don’t think that technology as a whole is bad, but there are ways that it can be used which are not healthy for anyone.  This book gives a great blueprint to combat that.

 The next book for this month is not actually a book, but a catalog.  The new Sonlight catalog arrived on my doorstep last week, and I was so excited to see it!  We have used Sonlight since Emma was about 2 years old and love it.  I love all the books that you get, the instructor’s guides are amazing, and overall it is a very rich literature-based program.  Over the years we have made Sonlight work exactly how we need it to, and are not afraid to drop books or move things around.  We do not follow Sonlight exactly as it is laid out, but knowing that I can move things around based on my own kids’ needs and still have the support of the instructor’s guide is an amazing thing in my book.  Even if you don’t purchase the curriculum that Sonlight offers, their catalog is a wealth of knowledge and has the most amazing book lists ever!  Definitely check it out!

The Kids’ Favorite Books

Jack’s favorite book this month was History of Video Games.  He actually read this right after Christmas, but, apparently, it is still his favorite right now!  Emma’s favorite book this month was Leprechauns and Irish Folklore which is part of the nonfiction Magic Tree House Fact Checker series.  My kids were all about the Leprechaun traps this month…The favorite read-alouds were Because of Winn-Dixie and My Brother is a Superhero.
