From Dreamer to Doer: How Taking Action Now can Shape Your Ideal Life
I love to come up with new ideas. It is one of the best part of goal planning to me, the exciting dreams. But, how do you go from dreamer to doer? What will actually cause you to take action and start to make improvements on your life? It certainly isn’t easy, and we often will allow ourselves to dig deep with limiting beliefs.
I don’t want you to think that dreaming is a bad thing. It absolutely is not. This entire series has been all about crafting your dream life so we know that there is a good bit of dreaming involved. But, when we get paralyzed by the dreaming, and the ideas, and don’t take action – that is when we start to struggle.

Dreamer to Doer: What does that mean?
The first step in creating a life you love is the dreaming. The dreaming is the way that you flesh out your ideas. You take the time to journal and understand what you truly want. But, unless you take that next step to action, you become stagnant in the dreaming phase.
When you start to dream about how you want your life to look, and the different people you want to surround yourself with, that is how you discover your passions. You start to figure out where you want to say no in order to spend more time on the relationships and activities that are important to you.

What does it mean to move from dreamer to doer? It means making a plan. You need to have an action plan in order to take that next step.
Goal Action Plans
Goal action plans allow you to turn your dreams into reality. You take those big ideas and then you start to break them down, first into goals, but then into manageable steps. Sometimes you need to keep breaking the goal down multiple times in order to come to an action plan that fits your life.
When you transform from dreamer to doer, you start reverse-engineering your goals into manageable steps. You take your big dream, and then it becomes a big goal, and then that goal is broken down into benchmarks of measurement. Then you figure out what the first step is, and the next step, and so on until you have your plan for the coming season.
A great help in breaking down big dreams into manageable, actionable plans is the PowerSheets Goal Planner, but two other great resources are the books The 12 Week Year, and Atomic Habits. These three resources together help you figure out what your dream life is, and then break those dreams down into goals and action plans. It is my favorite system to make progress, and start to live that ideal life that you crave.
The Bottom Line
In order to go from dreamer to doer, you need to have a plan. The plan constitutes the steps that you need to take in order to make progress on your goals, and move toward that future that you dream of. While dreaming is the first step to even figuring out what you want your ideal life to be, without taking the next step of making a plan, those dreams will continue to stay dreams.
It can be challenging to come up with a plan, or to even know what the first step is. If that is the case for you, I would love for you to come over and check out my membership community. There, I help you figure out how to break down your goals, we are a support system to create a life you love, and then live that life. In December, we will be walking together through planning out the new year, and making action plans for all of those dreams we want to turn into reality.
