The Ultimate Guide to Educational Toys for Christmas
My favorite gifts to both give and receive are educational toys. The toys and activities that my kids can learn from and grow from are so important. It helps with creativity, and they are better received and used long term than some of the other toys that are out there. Today I am going to share some of my favorite educational toys for the coming holiday season.
STEAM Educational Toys
If you have been part of the Townsend House Community for any length of time, you will know of our love for the KiwiCo Crates. We have been subscribing and using these crates for years! They recently came out with a new option called KiwiCo Clubs. These boxes are meant to engage your children’s creativity through continued learning and play. Instead of just one project each month, you get a project that your child will continue to learn and grow from (and play with!). There are options for all ages (birth through adult!)
Lucy recently put together (with a little help from big brother!) this awesome delivery bot, and she has been using it to deliver candy, treats, and little papers for the games that she creates to play with her siblings in the evening. I was impressed that it works outside on our driveway, on our kitchen floor, and all over the rugs in the kids’ bedrooms. The KiwiCo Clubs are hands-down a favorite educational gift for both my own kids as well as my nieces and nephews!
Games
We absolutely love games in this household. Board games are one of those educational toys that seems to keep on giving, year after year. There are so many different options available, but here are a few of our favorites:
All of these games are classics in our home. They feature heavily on our screen free days, especially in the winter months. We want to continue learning, but we also want to have fun doing it! If you haven’t tried incorporating games into your homeschool days, give it a go.
Santa typically brings our family board games and puzzles every year, and every year we love to work on these through the cold dark months. That is why games are a definite yes on my guide for best educational toys!
Educational Toys: Writing
Now, you wouldn’t think there are educational toys for writing. But, you would be wrong. There are all kinds of fun and helpful tools that help emerging writers. All of my kids love writing. I think that part of the reason is because I love writing. But, I have had to look for fun tools to encourage their writing over the years. Here are some of my favorites:
- Rory’s Story Cubes
- Writing Dice (similar to the story cubes, but for older kids!)
- The Storymatic
- Scriptive WriteStories (get 33% off your subscription with my code TOWNSEND33)
I always want my kids to love writing, and so when I find fun little activities and resources to encourage that creativity, I grab them.
The Bottom Line
Gift giving this holiday season doesn’t have to be just about toys, they can be dual purpose. Your kids may not even know there is an educational element to them because they are so much fun!
