Every Dream Life is Different
As we have been walking through crafting your dream life this month, it has been challenging to remove my own dream life from the equation. I want you to be able to visualize what you want out of life, and not what I want out of life. But, there comes a time when I still feel the need to share some of my own stories.

Are they always relatable? No, but I do hope they give you encouragement to see someone going before you and making the changes that I have been talking about. The key to this entire month’s worth of writing is to help you dream again. And then as you dream, you start to put a plan in place in order to turn those dreams into goals, and finally become your reality.
Is my dream too outlandish?
No, there is no such thing in my mind. I want you to be able to reach the goals that you have in front of you. You want those dreams to become reality. And while it may seem outlandish in the moment, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get there.
It takes a lot of grit and determination, especially if your dreams are outside the norm. The key is to not let other people get in your head. Because that is when you can start to doubt yourself, your previous accomplishments, and your plans for the future.
Slow living is my Dream
For most of my adult life I have been seeking to slow down. I’m not exactly sure how that came to be. My husband and I lived in Boston after we got married, we were living that busy city lifestyle. Then our basement apartment flooded, and I realized that I didn’t want to keep getting on the Orange line every morning to go to work. It wasn’t what I wanted.
When we moved back to Maine it was a breath of fresh air. Granted, I didn’t have a job at that time, and that in and of itself was a challenge. But, moving back home allowed me to breathe a breath of fresh air, I started to slow down.
I started to learn about the slow food movement. I started to read about urban homesteading, and I saw homeschoolers for the first time. These against-the-grain lifestyle options were definitely appealing to my desire to be unique and make my own way.
Have I arrived?
The answer to that is most definitely no. I’m not sure I ever will get to that pie in the sky dream life I have envisioned for myself and my family. However, I have made so many steps in the right direction over the past 18 years.
I see all of the small choices. The adjustments to our schedule, the saying no to Sunday morning activities. I see the rhythms and systems that I have incorporated into my life, that are now second nature, and that people may find odd, but they are what drive me each day.
Will you ever arrive at your dream life? That is hard to say! If I consider what my dream life was 18 years ago, parts of it are most definitely alive and well, and other parts have been adjusted as I gain more life experience, and the world around me changes.
The Bottom Line
You only have this one life to live. That’s it. I don’t want to sound morbid, but when you really consider that, are you doing the things in life that are important to you? If the answer is yes, that is amazing. I am so proud of you! But, if the answer is no, why is it no? When you take a step out of the tall weeds and you look at your life, what is holding you back from making some of the changes you want to make? Consider that. We will be chatting about it more tommorrow!
